As per the pre released game, Dragon Age: Origins, BioWare is releasing a multi platform sequel, Dragon Age 2, set to be released on March 8th 2011.
In the game you will be playing as a character named Hawke who is a poor refugee. Hawke was once the survivor of the Blight and the Champion of Kirkwall, though his rise to power is cloaked in myth and rumour. The cool thing about the character customization is that you can decide whether you want to be a female or a male human. One negative that’s been rumored is that when your character is in a conversation with another character, their emotions are monotone and blank. We’ve also heard that BioWare has attempted to make up for that lack of emotion by letting your character ‘be who they really are’ through cut scenes.
Dragon Age 2 picks up from the same place as Origins by following the Battle of Ostagar. The Battle of Ostagar was a war that took the lives of most of the Grey Wardens who were the people who had the power to destroy Archdemons, and the King of Ferelden. It’s obvious that the first Dragon Age didn’t really have a lot of visual hype to it, but thankfully BioWare has changed that this time around. They’ve been able to come up with a type of gothic/comic style to entice your visually aesthetic needs.
The story is told through a narrative point of view by two characters by the name of Cassandra and Varric. The story of the second Dragon Age is narrated to you backwards, you are already the Champion of Kirkwall and they re-tell your story backwards. Compared to Dragon Age: Origins, this allowed BioWare to cover 10 years of events rather than 1 year of events and hopefully they’ll be able to skip the completely uninteresting parts of the plot.
Personally I prefer free roaming RPGs, which is exactly what Dragon Age 2 is providing. The starting point and the ending point are predetermined for you but the way that you get there is completely your choice. You could wander off to the end of the world and back, if you wanted to. Another interesting feature that is becoming more and more popular within the RPG production strings is the ability to import your save. You will be able to import your save from Dragon Age: Origins to Dragon Age 2 without any hassle. We’ve heard that there’s no need to go back to play Origins if you haven’t yet just to have a save file to import because you’ll still be able to slightly customize your game even without one.
As per levelling up, just like in any ordinary RPG you will be able to obtain experience points to increase your characters strength. We don’t want to give too much away about the spells and increasing your levels but we will tell you that there is a huge difference between the attack sets and spell sets in the sequel.
We’re excited to pick this box up off of the shelves on March 8th of this year, we’re also excited about all of the in-game content that BioWare is going to hook you up with if you pre order the game before March 8th, 2011.
You’ll receive ‘The Black Emporium’ which is a destination on the map that has a market with a bunch of unique and rare items for sale. You will also receive a Mabari war hound. Alongside those two features you will also receive the Lion of Orlais shield and the Fadeshear sword. If you decide to go along with the regular purchase of the game you will receive a fighting Mabari war hound, the mirror of transformation and access to exclusive magic and crafting stores. We’d elaborate more on that but we have to leave SOMETHING for surprise.
Here’s a little trailer for you guys to get a little taste of what's to come.
Enjoy!
DEAD SPACE 2 and DRAGON AGE 2:
It's safe to say that Dead Space 2 is also a heavy hitter in early 2011 releases. It is set to release multi-platform in only 4 days, January 25th, by EA. What you might not know, however, is by purchasing Dead Space 2 between now and the March release of Dragon Age 2, you will get an exclusive code that writes "Ser Isaac of Clarke" into the Dragon Age story. Below you'll see a nice trailer of Dead Space's Isaac Clarke some wicked-looking medieval attire. This code will only be inside copies of Dead Space 2 printed between its release and March, so get it while it's hot!
