Halo: Reach - Defiant Map Pack

Supposedly, last week there was a French Halo fan site that has posted and then pulled screenshots that were supposed to be be images of a new map pack for Halo: Reach called Defiant.  Though speculations were brought up, it was all confirmed today when Microsoft made their official announcement about the Defiant map pack and set it for released next month.

The Noble map pack was previously released in October for Halo: Reach and apparently Defiant will be similar in some aspects.  It will add three new levels to Halo: Reach’s multiplayer and they’ll be called Condemned, Highlands, and Unearthed.  Condemned will be in a space station that will be able to suppose 6 to 12 players, Unearthed is in one of the planet’s mining sites and it will support max 4 players in Firefight mode, and Highlands is outside for 8-16 players.

Let me go into a little more detail for you guys:

Unearthed - Here you will be in the Titanium mine and refinery that’s in the Viery sector of the planet.  It was built to reap the benefits of the titanium inside of a massive meteor crater.  The titanium found here was used for many of the UNSC’s weapons, vehicles, and ships.  The facility was quickly abandoned during the invasion of the Covenant on Reach.  You will be able to play in a counter assault with the covenant in the following modes: Firefight and Firefight modes such as Generator Defense.

Condemned - Takes place on Orbital Station Gamma which is a station orbiting above planet Reach.  Prior to the invasion planned by the Covenant, OSG provided communications to and from UNSC fleets and it was a vital lifeline between Reach and Earth.  During the battle, the station suffered a lot of punishment due to the Covenant but a few sections remained untouched.  You will be able to play a ton of game types on this map alongside: Team Slayer, Team Objective, and Free For All.

Highlands - Starts off on the Military Wilderness Training Preserve on Reach.  The Preserve is where the Spartan soldiers trained before the war with the Covenant.  The Preserve was also previously used during battles in the Battle of Reach and the Spartan soldiers would use the land to their advantage.  You will be able to play Big Team Battle, Team Slayer and Team Objective on Highlands.

This map pack was designed with the help of Certain Affinity, they’re a Texas based studio that was founded by Max Hoberman who was one of the lead guys in designing Halo 2’s multiplayer team.

Now let’s talk about pricing.  The Defiant map pack will cost 800 Microsoft points which evens out to $10, not so bad for a map pack.  It will also add achievements worth 150 Gamerscore to the shooter.

Here’s a little fact for all of you Halo fans out there.  At the top of the ‘top Xbox Live games of 2010’ chart, Halo: Reach came in second with Black Ops in first place.
