Sources say that the hacker known as GeoHot has fled the country. For those of you who haven't been following the Sony vs. Hackers lawsuit, let me delve into that a little bit for you.
All PS3 owners must remember the large patch that we had to download to our consoles a few weeks ago, yes? That patch was to fix any security leaks in our PS3 systems that were made public thanks to the hacker, GeoHot. He had gone into extensive detail explaining how to hack the PS3 and Sony took it more than seriously.
Sony worked with YouTube asking to gather "All information and documents related to the use of your service(s) to host the content associated with and/or comprimising the video titled 'Jail broken PS3 3.55 with Homebrew,' posted by user 'geohot' and located at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkLSXsCKDkg." They also worked with Google looking for the IP address logs and any other information that could be gathered from the people who simply looked at the video.
As for GeoHot, the 21 year old hacker has fled the United States and has allegedly flown the coop all the way down to South America according to some papers that were filed by Sony.
"Most seriously, after Magistrate Judge Spero ordered an inspection of Hotz's devices and ordered Hotz to appear at a deposition in California, SCEA learned that Hotz had deliberately removed integral components of his impounded hard drives prior to delivering them to a third party neutral and that Hotz is now in South America, an excuse for why he will not immediately provide the components of his hard drives as requested by the neutral."
That is a hand well played, sir. We just hope that you don't intend on returning to your "Mother Land" any time soon!
