Final Fantasy Servers vs. Japan's Earthquake

Disclaimer:  All of our best wishes lie within those residing in Japan at the moment or visiting.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few days, you've heard of the terrible earthquake, that then triggers a tsunami, that hit Japan on Friday.  There have been over a dozen speculations about how this is going to affect the video gaming industry but we've gotten a little piece of information (tangible info) that we can share with you.

As reported by The Lodestone, Final Fantasy XIV, XI and PlayOnline servers will be shut down temporarily in an attempt to conserve power.  We're hoping that your human senses can kick in here and understand that there has been a huge amount of death and destruction and therefore, both companies decisions will be respected and undisputed.

"Due to the continuos earthquakes occurring in the Eastern regions of Japan since March 11th, 2011, the power companies in Japan have encouraged everyone to cooperate by conserving as much energy as possible as it is feared there will not be enough power supply.  Based on the current situation, we have decided to shut down the game servers temporarily, and therefore to suspend services of Final Fantasy XIV, Finaly Fantasy XI, and PlayOnline temporarily.  The services will be temporarily suspended for at least a week starting on March 13th, 2011 3:00 (PDT).  We will provide an update regarding the reinstatement of the service as additional information becomes available.  In connection with the temporary suspension of services, players will not be billed for any PlayOnline service throughout the April billing cycle.  Additional information regarding this matter will also be posted as it becomes available.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding of this unusual situation."

Alongside this, Konami has taken into account Metal Gear Solid Online and has also suspended their servers.
