We were talking about the press release that was to be made today by Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International. Basically in the press release they stated that they’re going to be starting to restore the PSN and Qriocity services per region. It will start with the gaming, music and video sectors. They also reminded us that they have taken the steps necessary to enhance the security on the network and there will be a new customer appreciation program to thank PlayStation users “for their patience and loyalty.”
- Here’s a detailed list of what the first restoration “rollout” will include:
-Including online titles
- Restoration of online gaming across the PS3 and PSP systems
- Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP
- Access to account management and password reset
- Access to download un-expired movie rentals on PS3, PSP, and MediaGo
- PS Home
- Friends list
- Chat functionality
Those at SNEI and SCE didn’t just decide to throw the network at you without the proper tests, they have been rigorously testing the network to ensure its stability and security.
Due to the recent attacks, Sony has created a position for Chief Information Security Officer who will be reporting directly to Shinji Hasejima, the Chief Information Officer of Sony Corporation. Some of the added security measures include:
- Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
- Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
- Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
- Implementation of additional firewalls
Alongside that, Sony has packed up their data center and moved it to a different location, they will also be having a forced system software update that will require all PSN users to change their passwords before being able to sign in. Also, your password will only be allowed to be changed on the PS3 which the account was activated or through validated email confirmation.
I’m sure that you’re all wondering what the “Welcome Back” program will include:
- Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details will be released soon.
- All existing PSN customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current PlayStation Plus members will receive 30 days free service.
- Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.
Still no word on whether the PSN will be up this week or not though!
What do you guys think? Do you think that this is an ample amount of benefits?

im just happy it's going to be back up soon. It's wonderful they are giving out "presents" for PSNer's patience and loyalty, but for me personally, I don't need the extra stuff. It's still nice though.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that other people will be happy, but the "Welcome Back" gifts are barely up to par, breaks my heart. 4 games that the majority of PlayStation owners already have, 30 days of PS Plus (when we lose all downloads after 30 days) and the rest doesn't even apply to me 'cause I don't have an exisiting PS Plus account or any of that other business :(
