Portal 2 bridge to Portal

There’s still more information being leaked about Portal 2, even though it’s merely weeks before the launch date for the game (April 18th).  It is said that Valve is going to be attempting to link the two Portals together in some sense.

Portal 2 takes place AFTER Portal, there’s a long enough time span between the two that Aperture Science is capable of being wrecked and covered with plant life/overgrown.

Kotaku was able to score an interview with one of Portal 2’s writers, Erik Wolpaw at PAX East, and he basically said that there will be a chapter that would connect Portal and Portal 2.  Somehow it will explain the immense amount of details that happened in between the two games.  Even though he was able to let us in on that tiny bit of information, he didn’t reveal how soon we would be able to see it.  “We’re actually going to release something that we’re not talking about yet that will give a little bit of the story of the interim time,” Erik Wolpaw said.  “We’re doing that before release.”

Another thing that was mentioned is that the Portal and Half-Life games may co-exist together but they will most definitely not crossover too much which is definitely a relief for us.  “We tried to keep as light a touch about it as we did in Portal 1.  Fans of Half-Life will notice some things, but if you haven’t played Half-Life they’ll just kind of pass right by you.  You’re not going to see Gordon tromping through the facility.” Wolpaw stated.

He also confirmed some of the issues that are being discussed that revolve around the timelines of Half-Life and Portal games.  “Portal is after Half-Life 1 and before Half-Life 2,” Wolpaw said.  “Without getting into it too much, Portal 2 is further down the line.”

If you’re lucky enough to be able to score access to PAX East, fans should note that you will be able to watch an in-depth demonstration of the game in a theatre.  It is said that Cave Johnson, who is a new character and the founder of Aperture Science, is being revealed for the very first time.  Cave Johnson’s voice has been done by JK Simmons who you might recognize as J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movie franchise.
