The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Information

Posted by: Tiara Sleight

As a personal fan of the Zelda franchise I will try to be as unbiased as possible as I am relaying this information from IGN to you guys.  I am just as excited as you are so I’m going to give you as many details as we’ve heard, to date, about Skyward Sword.

1.  Link will become fatigued.
As you perform complicated sword moves, climb, and sprint (yes, you can sprint), there will be a meter that will slowly deplete as you perform these moves which will lead to Link becoming fatigued.  When he is tired, he will bend over and gasp for air just like you would in real life.

2.  Apparently, the game doesn’t use the Wii Remote’s ability to aim at the screen.
It is said that when you aim the bow and arrow or navigate throughout the menus, the use for the Wii remote isn’t there.

3.  Your shield can be broken.
This isn’t something that’s new to the Zelda franchise, because I remember that in the Ocarina of Time, your wooden shield had the possibility of being burnt when you were in Death Mountain.  Apparently, this isn’t anything new for Skyward Sword because both your wooden and your iron shield can both be broken when a certain meter wears down.  Just as an added piece of information, there will be 3 different shields in the game (wood, iron, and Hylian).  There are also 3 different types of swords, standard, skyward, and master.

4.  Link can easily get over walls now.
Do you remember when you’d be playing other Zelda games and you would be staring at a ledge from afar with the convincing feeling that Link was too short to climb over it and so you’d continue on your way?  Well, in Skyward Sword, Link has the ability to climb walls that are way too tall fro him by pushing himself off of the side of the wall to boost himself and then he can pull himself up.

5.  Swordplay has been drastically enhanced.
There will be added moves to Link’s “swordsmanship.”  The sword will be able to slice in several different directions such as: upwards, sideways, diagonal, etc.  Alongside that, there will be a thrust move that can be executed repetitively.  You can hold the Wii remote at a complete 90 degree angle (straight upwards) and that will charge up Link’s sword which will allow you to complete an energy blast move.  Unfortunately on the flip side that will deplete the fatigue meter.  You can use the nunchuck and the remote to perform a spin attack and holding both at a 90 degree angle at the same time will do a sword swipe.

Pretty amazing, isn’t it?
