Resistance 3: Multiplayer/New Screens

In the previous Resistance 3 post (here) we were discussing what we had learned from Insomniac and all about the our new protagonist, Joseph Capelli, will be testing his survival skills against a Chimeran overrun population.  Until now, Insomniac has remained silent about Resistance 3's multiplayer component, relying solely on the information that they had about the single player campaign.  Luckily, we have some more information for you guys to read up on.

Our sources say that the gameplay is "swift and simple to pick up, and the reduced number of players on the field made it easy to find and make waste of opponents through a variety of means thanks to customization."

The multiplayer component will include objective-based modes and death matches that will be set in locations outside of the boundaries of the United States.  These will mostly be human vs. chimera battles that you will be able to play.  Originally we had speculated that the online multiplayer modes would be able to allow up to 40 to 60 people per room but thankfully Insomniac decided to cut that number back down to 16 so that it will be an 8v8 scenario.  Much better than the idea of 20v20 or 30v30.

The customization can be seen within the default load outs that you will be able to choose from.  There will be a mix of chimera and human weapons to choose from that will include: Bullseye (submachine gun), Rossmore (shotgun, and my personal favourite in Resistance 1), Deadeye (sniper rifle) and the MSA2 Carbine.  Alongside those load outs there are a ton of other active abilities that you can select by using the d-pad that will be able to give you a battlefield advantage.  Such as:

Ammo Beacon: Gives ammo to teammates

Bubble Shield: Provides a static energy shield

Radar Beacon: Enhances your team's radar

Radar Decoy: Emits a dummy projection to throw off opponents

Doppleganger: Puts out an image of your character to distract your enemies.  It's obvious to tell between you and the fake because when you shoot at it, the image will "snow" out.

Dash: Burst of speed to evade opponents

Lightning Shield: Temporary energy field that blocks melee damage and it stuns the enemy on impact

Much like in Call of Duty, as you progress through the multiplayer stages you will be able to obtain points that will allow you to unlock the special abilities and then later on you will be able to upgrade the abilities and increase the power that they have.  Though there seems to be a set amount of load outs for you to enjoy, there's enough ability for customization to prevent boredom from taking over.  Plus, all of this is based on the demo so who knows what else Insomniac will add before the game hits the shelves?
Sony put out a statement today stating that a beta for Resistance 3 will be released on the PSN sometime later this year.
