GDC Awards For You At Home
One event that all gamers look forward to every year is the GDC Awards (Game Developers Choice Awards) which is held every year by the Game Developers Conference. This year it was hosted again by the head of Double Fine Productions, Tim Schafer. Right off the bat the awards began and crowned Red Dead Redemption with the Best Audio trophy.
As the evening progressed, Schafer continued by awarding Minecraft (Independent Games Festival Grand Prize winner) with the Best Debut trophy and awarded Mass Effect 2 (Interactive Achievement Awards Game of the Year) with the trophy for Best Writing.
Next on the list was Best Game Design and Red Dead Redemption took that away which added another trophy on the shelf of developer Rockstar San Diego. Minecraft was given another trophy for the Best Downloadable Game and also the Innovation Award which surprised the game co-creator Markus Persson to the point of no words.
The Xbox Live game Limbo won Best Visual Arts which happened to be a skit of the nerd-comedy troupe Mega64. Cut the Rope won the best Handheld Game created by ZeptoLab (which I have played and thoroughly enjoyed).
Alongside the competitive trophies, the GDCA also gives out honor such as the Pioneer Award. This year, the recipient of that award was Yu Suzuki who granted the GDC with a presentation earlier in the day. As for the lifetime achievement award, that went to Peter Molyneux who is the co-founder of Bullfrog Productions and Lionhead Studios who you should all know developed Fable.
To no surprise, Red Dead Redemption wasn't done with taking the awards by storm as they won the Best Technology award.
For the grand finale and the "most important award of the year", Rockstar San Diego's crew won Game of the year.

After reviewing the nominees and who won, there are a couple of games that should have won in certain categories rather than just handing it off to Red Dead Redemption.....oh well, politics in award shows.
