Nintendo 3DS: Hidden RPG?
Alongside your purchase of the Nintendo 3DS and all of its treasures, you will also be granted a hidden RPG/social game somewhere in the handheld device. Of course, the game isn’t as in-depth as huge blockbuster titles such as Final Fantasy or Dragon Age but it’s still pretty important.
The game is called Find Mii.
Find Mii is hidden in the 3DS’ Street Pass Mii Plaza which is a pre-loaded application that loads and saves other Mii’s that you can obtain while passing someone on the street who also has a 3DS. We covered this in the 3DS review I did with you guys if you remember.
It is supposedly a gateway game, something that can turn a player who’s more keen on Brain Age into someone who is more fascinated in RPGs, or even turn grandparents into the same type of gamer as their grandchildren. Nintendo have been toying with gateway games for years including Mario Kart of the new Super Mario Bros. Also, the Wii that holds titles such as Wii Fit or Wii Sports, causing those people to get excited when there’s a new Zelda title or Metroid coming out. Simply, they are trying to make their fan base more broad by making games that are suitable for everyone.
Lets talk about this hidden RPG now. In Find Mii, your Mii is imprisoned and the only way that it can be saved is by the other Mii’s who show up in your system. You can control these guys in a series of battles. If you have yet to encounter the characters needed, you can cash in your Play Coins (coins earned by walking around with the 3DS) and you can buy them. As your networking base expands and you connect to more 3DS systems, the larger your army will become. It basically the same aspect as the friend invites for Facebook games such as FarmVille or FishVille. And you want to know the most awesome thing? It’s free.
