FLAWLESS VICTORY: A Mortal Kombat Review

Greetings, Earth Warriors! Kristastrxphe here for another exciting review!
This time the game is Mortal Kombat.
Also, if you haven't yet seen my unboxing video for the Kollector's Edition of the game, check it out a few posts below.
I've been playing Mortal Kombat non-stop since I picked it up at a Gamestop midnight release.

One would think it's a traditional fighting game: Ladder or short game mode with a character, multiplayer, unlockables... And while it is, Mortal Kombat delivers much, MUCH more to the table.

For starters, the story mode for Mortal Kombat is RIDICULOUSLY long. You don't choose a character. The story is divided into 16 Chapters, each using a different character: i.e, Chapter 1: Johnny Case, Chapter 2: Sonya Blade, etc.... between each fight between the characters are really long and detailed cutscenes, that REALLY bring out the story and characters. It is seriously like watching a full length animated Mortal Kombat film. And that, is something that I love, and is something that should not be ignored.

The story takes place during the tournament for balance between the two realms. It goes into great detail about various characters, their pasts, their rivals, etc.. WHY do Scorpion and Sub-Zero hate each other? What is going on with the Lin-Kwei and their cyborg experimentation? How did Kabal get so ugly? And my personal favorite: WHO is Noob Saibot? All of these questions and much more are answered in the Story Mode.

Of course, it wouldn't be Mortal Kombat without the traditional Ladder matches. Choose your favorite character, and battle 10+ warriors to the top and see that personal character's ending. I've only done it with Sektor on Normal difficulty, and it's solid and exactly what you'd expect from traditional ladder.

Obviously, there is multiplayer in the game, where you can turn on another Kontroller (lol) and battle with a friend, or play online against other players around the world.

Another exciting feature is the 300 Challenge tower. A Massive tower of 300 different challenges to complete. The creator, Ed Boon, says it's time consuming, has a wiiiiiide variety of challenges, from simply defeating your opponent to killing 20 Tarkatan soldiers, etc... The list is massive and rewarding, and gets more difficult as it goes up. Ed Boon states that for completing the 300 Challenge Tower, there is a special reward. So get on it, people!

Another fun feature is the Kurrency system and The Krypt. Doing battles and Challenges give you money, or "Kurrency", which you spend on in The Krypt to unlock new things in the game. Everything from concept art, game music, alternate costumes, additional Fatalities, etc... Everything.

There are many more awesome features to the game, but these are the ones I'm talking about today.

On a different note, however, I have only noticed a couple little minor glitchy lag error so far. Nothing terrible, just something like the Announcer saying "Round 1-1-1-1--- FIGHT!" Like a skipping CD. Also I've noticed a tiny amount of lag in one or two of the cutscenes, but it wasn't anything frustrating or annoying. Who knows.

Game Informer gave Mortal Kombat a 9.5 and says this is the best MK game EVER.
I'd have to agree. This is the most brutal fighting game I've ever seen. The controls are perfect, the X-Ray Attacks are simple to use, if you can pull them off. The in-game graphics during battles are gorgeous, although I personally think the cutscene graphics look a little flat. Maybe I'm just being picky.
I know the PS3 version of the game is 3D capable and supports 1080P graphics, which is phenomenal.

I give Mortal Kombat a perfect 10 out of 10. - FLAWLESS VICTORY.
Needless-to-say, if you enjoy fighting games, this is one of the best. Ever.
Now that's TOASTY.
